Afronomicslaw.org Welcomes New Contributing Editor - Munia El Harti Alonso

We are delighted to welcome Munia El Harti Alonso as a Contributing Editor. Munia brings a unique expertise in international arbitration and Investor State Dispute Settlement. In addition to the excellent analysis and other contributions in this area, as a Contributing Editor, Munia is responsible for updating and coordinating individual contributions on all matters relating to ISDS issues.

Munia is a PhD candidate in international investment arbitration at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She focuses her research on quantum determination of renewable energy disputes under the Energy Charter Treaty. She holds an LLM (Dean’s List and Highest Honors) from Georgetown Law and a Masters in International Economic Law (Cum Laude) from Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.

She was trained in international arbitration at law firms Jenner & Block (Washington DC) and Derains & Gharavi (Paris) where she worked on World Bank ICSID proceedings. She was also Research Assistant to Professor Catharine Titi at Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas on the French Ministry of Justice Project “the Impact of International Investment Agreements on Foreign Direct Investment Flows”.

Prior to her specialization in international arbitration, Munia has gained experience in multilateral diplomacy. Between 2015 and 2016 she was an Adviser to the European Union Delegation to the United Nations, covering international public law matters and the 64th Session of UNCITRAL Working Group II. In 2014 she trained at the Spanish Permanent Representation to the European Union, assisting on the Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership (“TTIP”) and Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (“CETA”) negotiations at the European Council.
