The Warwick International Global Sustainable Development Institute (IGSD) at Warwick University, UK is welcoming applications under its Transformations of Human-Environment Interactions to Sustainable Development (TRANSFORM) programme. TRANSFORM is a Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarship Programme that provides a new research training pathway for sustainability science at Warwick, offering 18 PhD scholarships to train a new generation of transdisciplinary leaders who are able to address current and future sustainability challenges. Our cohorts will be trained in transdisciplinary methods, enabling them to draw on skills from multiples disciplines and work effectively and equitably with non-academic partners to deliver impactful sustainable development research.

TRANSFORM will be structured as a four-year PhD programme focused on training students to have competence in a subject area that spans at least two disciplinary perspectives. The programme is organised in three initial thematic clusters. One of the suggested topics for 2021 may be of interest to Afronomicslaw readers: Financing ‘Green’ and ‘Sustainable’ Transitions, a project aimed at critically interrogating the rise of ‘green’ or ‘sustainable’ financial instruments, with an emphasis on questions of climate justice and the intersections of ‘green’ investment and shifting patterns of development finance, including from a regulatory and governance perspective. It will be jointly supervised by Dr Celine Tan from Warwick Law School and Dr Nick Bernards from the School of Cross-Faculty Studies at Warwick University.
