Federico Suarez - Ricaurte

Professor Federico Suarez Ricaurte is a professor at the Faculty of Law, Universidad Externado de Colombia and a researcher at the Instituto de Estudios Constitucionales Carlos Restrepo Piedrahita. He holds a Master of Laws in International Commercial Law with International Law in Kent Law School with Merit; and he holds a Master of Law in Human Rights and Democratization of the Universidad Externado de Colombia in agreement with Carlos III University of Madrid. He was a Visiting Fellow of the Transnational Law Institute of the King’s College, London. He is Attorney graduated from the Universidad Externado de Colombia. He currently teaches International Economic Law, Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, International Investment Law and Transnational Law. He supervises dissertations in postgraduate and undergraduate programs on the Critical Analysis of International Investment Law in Latin America and also in Third World Approaches to International Law, TWAIL.  
 
As a practising lawyer, professor Suarez Ricaurte worked as a clerk in the Constitutional Colombian Court during four years. He also worked in public international law as a legal counsel to Dr. Carlos Gaviria Díaz, as Chairman of the Auditing Committee of Bilateral Investment Treaties, CAITISA, composed by the State of Ecuador to review Bilateral Investment Treaties that such State has ratified, and cases where the Ecuadorian State has been sued under the ISDS framework.
 
Professor Suarez is a contributing editor of Afronomicslaw, the leading blog on all aspects of international economic law as they relate to Africa and the Global South, and he is also part of the editorial board of Derecho a la Carta, the first podcast in socio legal topics in Colombia.
