Afronomicslaw.org Indaba

Welcome to the first Afronomicslaw.org Indaba. Indaba is a Zulu and Xhosa word that refers to a meeting to discuss a serious topic – it also refers to a discussion on a matter of concern or for discussion. This occasional series will discuss issues relating to international economic law relating to Africa, the developing world and the Global South.

The discussion will prioritize bringing in expert voices who work very hard on the issues we care most about here at Afronomicslaw.org. These individuals do so behind the scenes, invisible to our audience yet their insights are invaluable to the work we do.

This first Afronomicslaw.org indaba is moderated by James Thuo Gathii, an Editor at Afronomicslaw.org and a Professor of Law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. The guest in this indaba is Mustaqeem de Gama who is currently a Counsellor at the South African Mission in Geneva. He is responsible for intellectual property (TRIPS) dispute settlement, trade-related investment measures (TRIMS) and rules related disciplines such antidumping, countervailing and subsidies. In his previous position he was a director with the Department of Trade and Industry where he dealt with investment and trade issues. The Indaba can be viewed on the Afronomicslaw YouTube Channel via this link: Afronomicslaw.org Indaba Episode 1 with Mustaqeem De Gama.

Also now available on the Afronomicslaw YouTube Channel are the videos from some of our past webinars: Vulnerability in the Trade and Investment Regimes in the Age of COVID-19, and Intellectual Property Rights: Global Rules, Regional and Local Realities.
