Summary:

This contract Web Designer position is responsible for designing, writing, modifying, testing, debugging, documenting, and implementing a new blog website. In particular, the web designer will make sure the new look gives prominence to the African Sovereign Debt Justice Network and its activities. The selected individual or firm must have a strong work ethic and be able to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Overhauling the current Afronomicslaw.org blog layout and introducing a new layout
  • Enhancing the security of the blog
  • Archiving and making the content on the blog easily accessible, searchable and downloadable in pdf format
  • Re-design the blog to enhance its capacity to host videos with direct link to our YouTube Channel.
  • Establishing new pages on the blog and in particular for the African Sovereign Debt Justice Network
  • Performing requirements analysis and writing design specifications.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting software problems, broken links and providing solutions to overcome those problems using web-based technologies.
  • Working with third parties to meet the technical needs for assigned projects
  • Reviewing web site for adherence of organization specifications and standards
  • Performing related duties as required or assigned
  • Developing and designing presentations and graphic communications
  • Ensuring the new web design gives prominence to the African Sovereign Debt Justice Network activities.
  • The ability to produce content that captures the desired message

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual or firm must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and have a very high attention to detail. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience:

The candidate must have experience in designing, developing, testing, debugging, implementing, and maintaining web-based applications, using Java, Web Services, ColdFusion, Adobe Creative Suit (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) and assorted programming languages as needed. Experience in creating content for social media.

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related area is required such as web or graphic design, and at least 2 years of programming experience. Must have knowledge of a broad range of concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of web design. Vast experience with Bluehost, Word Press and with blogs is highly desirable.

Language Ability:

The individual must have excellent oral and written communication and documentation skills, and must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence and technical manual. He/she must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions. 

Reasoning Ability:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. The ability to solve practical problems and deal with unique combinations of requirements in delivering systems is required.

Computer Skills:

The ability to identify and solve technical problems in a timely manner is required.

Experience:

Selected individual/firm must have proven prior experience in Website design and implementation. The selected individual or firm must have professional experience in both website design and graphic design. They must have experience in designed websites on the WordPress platform as well as using WordPress plugins and custom HTML and CSS and the proven ability to work quickly from concept to completion.
