New Editor and Contributing Editor Announcement

Afronomicslaw.org is pleased to welcome a new editor and three contributing editors effective immediately. Titilayo Adebola, who for the last year, has been a contributing editor will effective immediately become an editor on Afronomicslaw.org The three new contributing editors who will join Afronomicslaw.org are Jan Yves Remy, Eghosa Ekhator and Jason Braganza. Their bios can be read below:

Dr. Titilayo Adebola Dr Titilayo Adebola is a Lecturer at the School Law at the University of Aberdeen. She is affiliated with three of the School's research centres: the Centre for Commercial Lawthe Centre for Energy Law and the Centre for Constitutional and Public International Law. She is the Theme Coordinator for Intellectual Property Law. She also coordinates and teaches varied Intellectual Property Law and Commercial Law courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Before joining the School of Law, Dr Adebola was a tutor at the University of Warwick, from 2016 to 2018, where she taught on the Global Intellectual Property Law and Policy course. She has practised law in Nigeria, where she is called to the Bar with dual qualifications as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She is the founder of Flora IP, an innovative food, agriculture and intellectual property resource.

Jason Braganza Jason Braganza is an Economist with over ten years experience working on international development matters ranging from trade, regional integration, poverty reduction to more recently on tax reform. He serves as a joint head of ISLP’s UK operations that covers deploying pro-bono legal experts on tax and anti-bribery and corruption cases in developing regions; providing strategic direction for the UK office in ensuring maximum impact of pro-bono support; and leading fundraising efforts to keep UK operations sustainable. Jason is the Programme Director of Tax that combines technical assistance and capacity building on domestic and international tax matters.

Dr. Eghosa Ekhator Dr. Eghosa Ekhator joined the University of Derby Law School in September 2019 as a Senior Lecturer in law. Before joining Derby, he taught at the University of Chester on numerous undergraduate and postgraduate modules. His main research areas are in international environmental law and natural resources governance. He received his LLB in Law from the University of Benin, and an LLM and PhD in Law from the University of Hull.  He has been called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Dr. Jan Yves Remy Dr. Jan Yves Remy joined the SRC as Deputy Director in August 2018. She is an international trade lawyer who, over the course of her fifteen-year career, has advised governments and private stakeholders on international trade matters, with a focus on dispute settlement under the auspices of the World Trade Organization (WTO). She has also worked closely with government and private clients to promote and defend their interests in the negotiation of international, regional and bilateral trade agreements and through her varied and rich experience, has built an international network comprising legal and economic practitioners, academics and negotiators from across the globe.

Prior to joining the SRC, Jan Yves worked for five years at the office of Sidley Austin LLP in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was a Senior Trade Associate. Whilst there, she worked closely with other members of the firm’s International Trade and International Arbitration groups on a range of international trade and dispute resolution matters. Jan Yves’ representations included matters involving sovereign governments engaged in high-profile ongoing disputes at the panel and appellate stages of WTO dispute settlement. Jan Yves also provided negotiating and policy advice on the legal and policy implications of Brexit; on the impact of the Donald Trump Presidency; on matters relating to the loss of corresponding banking relationships by some Caribbean banks; on international financial regulatory matters; on the impact of climate change; on the impact of fisheries subsidies.

Before Sidley Austin LLP, Jan Yves worked for six years as a legal officer with the Appellate Body Secretariat of the WTO in Geneva, where she assisted Members of the Appellate Body in their disposition of appeals of trade matters conducted under the WTO’s dispute settlement mechanism. Jan Yves provided legal counsel to the Appellate Body Members in a number of complicated and high-profile WTO disputes involving a wide range of substantive areas of WTO law. She worked closely with one of the current Appellate Body Members on an arbitration under Article 21.3(c) of the DSU, concerning the reasonable period of time to be accorded a Member to bring its WTO-inconsistent measures into conformity with WTO law. During her tenure at the WTO, Jan Yves also delivered seminars on WTO law and procedure to government trade officials.

In her earlier career, between 2003-2005, Jan Yves also served as a services trade analyst at the Caribbean Negotiating Machinery (now the Office of Trade Negotiations), where she assisted in coordinating the negotiating positions of Caribbean governments and advised and represented them in multilateral, bilateral and regional negotiations. She has continued her interest and involvement in the Caribbean legal and trade spheres, and has completed a doctoral thesis on Caribbean regional integration through the examination of the role of the Caribbean Court of Justice in Caribbean integration. She remains a committed Caribbean integrationist.
